Anti-Discrimination & Anti-Harassment "Train the Trainer"

The Anti-Discrimination & Anti-Harassment (ADAH) 'Train the Trainer' program was created to bring awareness of stigmas and biases within the construction industry. The modules are designed to understand the root causes of discrimination and harassment in the workplace, while educating participants with proactive solutions to create a safer and more inclusive work environment.

The "Train the Trainer" program will take place over two days, July 21-22, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM each day. Upon completion, all trainers will be equipped to deliver the 120-minute ADAH program. We encourage members, apprentices, union officers, employers, and anyone in our industry to sign up for this valuable training!

DAY ONE: Participants will engage in the course material which will include group activities and open group discussions on lived experiences on work-sites. Participant's will learn the necessary skills to become the trainers and learn critical skills on how to prevent discrimination and harassment.

DAY TWO: Participants will become the trainer! They will engage in 'The Teach Back' where they will present a portion of the training back to the facilitator and receive constructive feedback.

MODULES

1. Stigmas and Prejudices

• Understanding bias, stigma, and stereotypes within oneself and at workplace.

• Exploring how these shape workplace culture and influence our behaviours

  
  

2. Classes of Discrimination

• Review of protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code

• Discussion of systemic and interpersonal forms of discrimination and they impact individuals and the broader work environment

3. Classes of Harassment

• Identify the various forms of harassment

• Recognizing patterns and understand the impact of harassment

  
  

4. Prevention and Proactive Solutions

• Strategies for prevention, intervention, and bystander response in the face of discrimination and harassment

• Employer and union roles in creating safe reporting structures and clear policy enforcement and accountability

This training aims to achieve the following outcomes for Unions, Employers, and Training Institutions:

• Prevent harassment and discrimination on the jobsite and related sectors

• Rights and responsibilities of all job site personnel

• Promotion of an inclusive, team-oriented site culture

• Encouragement of early reporting and proactive resolution of workplace issues

• Provision of education that challenges and unlearns negative behaviors, ultimately contributing to a stronger workplace culture

• Reduction of lost time and prevention of workplace injury or harassment-related claims through early intervention and education

The training will be delivered at the NII Advance Technology Campus 117 Farrell Drive, Tiverton, Ontario N0G 2T0.

Participants are required to bring their own notepads and writing equipment they need for notes.
