Building Mental Health in the Construction Workplace – Mental Health Awareness

The Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario is proud to partner with the Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec Building Trades Council as well as SMART Local 47, and the Ottawa Labour Management Health and Safety Committee to present this training opportunity.

The 'Train the Trainer' program will take approximately 12 hours to complete over two days, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, including active class time and homework/preparation. This program is being offered to train your trainers, to then teach this program.

Lunch will be provided. Participants are required to bring their own notepads and writing equipment they need for notes.

After completing this course, participants will:

• Have a greater understanding of the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety.
• Be confident to approach a worker they may be concerned about and initiate a conversation.
• Understand potential mental health risks and protective factors in the workplace and how these may impact workers.
• Know what support and resources are available for workers.
• Be able to deliver informal ‘toolbox talks’ to workers about mental health in the workplace.

The mental health course is broken down into the following modules:

• MODULE 1: What is Mental Health
• MODULE 2: The relationship between the construction workplace and Mental Health
• MODULE 3: Anxiety and Depression
• MODULE 4: Taking action to support a worker.

All the materials will be offered as worksite toolbox talks.
