Dear Brother Gallagher,
Thank you for sharing your letter dated May 2, 2022 advising the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario that International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793 members have turned down the last offer presented by the Employer Bargaining Agency during a ratification vote that was held on May 2nd leading to a legal strike that is now in-effect.
Our Executive Board members have had an opportunity to review and discuss your correspondence earlier today, coming to the conclusion that the provincial Council fully and unanimously supports your members in their collective strike action. Moreover, any attempts by the employers to utilize replacement workers would be universally opposed and condemned by the Building Trades affiliates who are prepared to offer any added supports that you may require, including support for any picket lines that may be set up.
We are hopeful that in light of these latest developments, the employee and employer bargaining agencies will be able to come together towards a renewed dialogue with the aim of reaching an agreement in the near future. Please feel free to reach out to our office at (416) 679-8887 if you require any further assistance as new developments unfold.
In Solidarity,
Marc Arsenault,
Business Manager & Secretary-Treasurer
