ONTARIO BUILDING TRADES MARK LABOUR DAY 2026

On Labour Day, the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario proudly joins workers, unions and families across the province in celebrating the contributions of working people and the strength of Ontario’s labour movement.

Every day, skilled tradespeople help build, maintain and power the communities we call home. From the infrastructure that connects us and the homes and hospitals we depend on, to the energy projects that will power Ontario’s future, their skill, dedication and professionalism are helping build a stronger province.

Labour Day is also an opportunity to recognize the generations of workers and union members who fought for the rights and protections many of us benefit from today – safer workplaces, fair wages, reasonable hours, benefits, pensions and a collective voice on the job.

As Ontario undertakes an ambitious period of growth and construction, those principles remain as important as ever. Building Ontario’s future requires investing in the people who build it – creating pathways into the skilled trades, supporting apprentices, maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, and ensuring every worker can build a rewarding career and return home safely at the end of the day.

The Ontario Building Trades are proud to represent more than 150,000 skilled trades professionals across the province. This Labour Day, we thank our members for the work they do every day, recognize the families who support them, and reaffirm our commitment to building an Ontario where workers are respected, valued and have a strong voice.
